SPRAY DRYING IN FOOD MANUFACTURING
Spray drying is a unique liquid-to-powder process that requires both skill and attention to detail. At its core, it involves an initial ingredient conversion through specialized chemical reactions and processing. This liquid is then dried into a custom food-grade powder through water evaporation.
Swanand has developed a deep understanding of the spray dry technology. Through it, are able to offer highly customized outputs based on your specifications.
THE SPRAY DRYING PROCESS
Here is a general breakdown of the spray drying process:
Develop a customized liquid in-feed.
The chemical reactions and processes that take place in liquid batching prior to your product hitting the dryer is where much of the magic happens. Our team will help you perfect your formulation to achieve the particle size, texture and flavor characteristics you require.
Next comes atomization.
During this stage, the liquid is fed into the dryer, where a rotary atomizer spins rapidly, dispersing the product into small liquid droplets. The rotational velocity allows us to control particle size.
Third is drying.
Hot air runs up the length of the dryer as the droplets fall, causing product moisture to evaporate quickly, converting the liquid into a powder. We can control moisture during this phase by fine-tuning the temperature of the heated air.
Last is recovery.
After drying is complete, a bag filter or cyclone recovers the powder from the exhaust, which is then sent to be packaged.
SPRAY DRYING CAPABILITIES
Our spray dryer is capable of handling a wide range of inputs. The liquid blend that you send us or that we can create for you is fed into the system and atomized using a rotary atomizer on our production system or via a nozzle on the dryer. A primary cyclone collects and discharges powder that is passed over a sifter before packaging. Our production spray dryer has a nominal water evaporative capacity is200 lit per hour. After completion, our Clean-In-Place (CIP) system and trained operators thoroughly clean the system for the next scheduled production.

MATERIAL STORAGE
At Swanand, we offer contract food ingredient storage solutions that not only protect your ingredients, but also provide flexibility. We work with your delivery schedules and manage supplier lead times, confirming everything needed is on hand for production. Our goal is to ensure your finished products arrive to you on time and to your specifications.
STORAGE STANDARDS
Food ingredients have a long list of potential threats. At Swanand, we provide safety for your ingredients and packaging before the next production stage. We ensure careful segregation of ingredients. With distinctions such as allergens materials, we minimize any chance of cross-contamination.The Food Safety Modernization Act became federal law in 2011. This shifted the food safety focus from responding to contamination to attempting to prevent it. Ingredient storage is a critical component of this change. As a response to this new standard, Swanand works tirelessly to ensure our plants are always audit-ready, even for unannounced visits.
STORAGE PROTECTION
Our receiving personnel also know what to look for when the trucks arrive. We use a rigorous check-in process for raw materials delivery to identify metal, glass, odors or other hazards that could jeopardize your ingredients. Our workers are also careful to verify all materials and quantities to minimize errors and customer complaints.
STORAGE CONVENIENCE
Need to find something fast? Our management system identifies where your product is and how long it’s been there. We also conduct a monthly physical inventory count to further audit our facilities, and all customers receive a monthly inventory report of their raw and finished materials
